What is hair removal?

Laser Hair Removal offers the promise of obliterating unwanted hair follicles, halting their ability to produce hair where it’s unwelcome. For decades, women have grappled with the chore of shaving their legs and underarms, a task requiring frequent upkeep to stave off stubble. Facial hair, particularly for women, poses an additional challenge, especially in certain ethnic groups and post-menopausal stages.

Once considered solely a concern for men, hairy backs are now perceived as unattractive across genders. In today’s bustling world, where time is a precious commodity, shaving proves to be a time-consuming hassle, while the cumulative expense of professional waxing can weigh heavily on one’s budget. The unsightly and sometimes painful issue of ingrown hairs, stemming from continual shaving or waxing, further compounds the problem.

Imagine the freedom of luxuriating in skin devoid of stubble, boasting a soft, silky texture—no more unsightly ingrown hairs to contend with. Laser Hair Removal offers a lasting, affordable solution that is both safe and effective, delivering reliable results without the need for shaving, waxing, or tweezing. It’s a time-saving solution that promises hair-free skin, allowing you to bid farewell to the bristly discomfort of stubble and embrace the convenience and confidence of smooth, silky skin.

What does laser hair reduction address?

Laser hair removal is a procedure to remove unwanted hair on your body. It’s noninvasive, which means it doesn’t require any cuts in your skin.

PEOPLE MAY GET THIS TREATMENT ON ANY PART OF THEIR BODY, BUT THE MOST COMMON AREAS ARE:
  • FACE
  • UNDERARMS
  • BIKINI AREA, OR ANY AREAS THAT GROW PUBIC HAIR
  • BACK
  • LEGS
  • FEET
  • CHEST
  • ARMS

How does it work?

Hair removal treatments can be performed using either IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) machines or various lasers such as Alexandrites, ND Yags, or Diodes. Each method comes with its own set of advantages, risks, and limitations. Lavana Medical stands out in Calgary for having the most advanced technology in the field, including all the aforementioned options, with each technology being top-tier within its class.

However, it’s essential to note that not all technologies are suitable for darker skin types or tanned skin due to the presence of pigment in the skin itself. Since the energy targets pigment in the hair follicle, darker hair makes the treatment more effective. Yet, when the skin also has pigment, as is often the case with darker skin types, it complicates the process. Safely targeting hair pigment without affecting skin melanin poses a challenge, but it can be overcome with appropriate measures.

Unfortunately, if the hair is very light or white, there’s no pigment for the energy to target, making successful outcomes unlikely for everyone. Additionally, not all hair on the body grows simultaneously; it progresses through phases called anagen (active growth), catagen (resting), and telogen (regression). Only actively growing hair can be effectively treated, meaning multiple well-timed sessions are necessary to maximize permanent hair reduction. Adequate intervals between treatments allow non-active hair to return to the growth phase. While results vary, few individuals are non-responders to the treatment.

What results can I expect?

Finer or lighter-colored hair typically demands more treatments compared to thicker, darker hair. Dark, thick hair on light skin usually necessitates fewer sessions than dark hair on dark skin. While some individuals may achieve complete hair reduction in as few as 4-6 treatments, others may require eight or more sessions. It’s important to note that achieving the complete destruction of all hair may not always be feasible.

To enhance success and minimize the number of treatments needed to eliminate as much hair as possible in a specific area, it’s crucial to invest in high-quality treatments and adhere to a timely treatment schedule.
